Abstract

Since 2009, the “Centro de Investigación en Biotecnología” (CIB) of “TEC”, has carried out several interuniversity and multidisciplinary research projects about the bacterium Brucella abortus. CIB has colaborated with the “Programa de Investigación en Enfermedades Tropicales (PIET)” from “Escuela de Medicina Veterinaria” of “Universidad Nacional (UNA)” and the “Centro de Investigación en Enfermedades Tropicales” from “Facultad de Microbiología” of “Universidad de Costa Rica”. Most of the projects received funding from “Fondos Especiales para la Educación Superior (FEES)” of “Consejo Nacional de Rectores (CONARE)”. During the last decade, FEES-funding allowed the creation and equipment of a bacteriology laboratory, as well as the development of several bachelor, master and doctoral thesis in the fields of biotechnology, microbiology, veterinary medicine and biomedical sciences. All that work was accompanied with the publication and writing of scientific articles.
