Virtuality in the educational process: theoretical reflections on its implementation

Abstract

This paper provides a general outline of a virtual classroom, the characteristics of a virtual teaching / learning process of this nature, the role of participants and materials, and features that are desirable in a virtual tutor. It emphasizes in the role of the tutor, in this process of construction and reconstruction of knowledge, using a virtual space. It also focuses on the importance of the experiences that each of the members, as a student or as a virtual tutor, brings to the process. It provides a comparison between the concepts related to virtuality and traditional education. It also provides a general assessment of these processes and attempts to supply an overview of elements to be considered when initiating and implementing a course in a virtual way.
