A proposal for trustworthy generative IA system in engineering
Main Article Content
Abstract
In this paper, we propose a regulation for the use of generative IA systems for teaching engineering at the Costa Rica Institute of Technology. It is divided into three main sections. In the first, a brief account of the national installed capacity in mobile and broadband technology. In the second section, the main and general features of generative IA systems are provided, aimed at promoting a better understanding of the potentialities and limitations of these systems. In the third, we describe and exemplify our proposal for regulating the use of these systems in the teaching of Engineering. Our starting point is the professional skills derived from the corpus of engineering attributes in force in our institution. On the regulation, it is based on three of the emergent systems presented by UNESCO in 2024 [1]: principles-based, risk-based, and sandbox systems. These are correlated with the governance principles, HOTL, HITL, and HIC. Sandbox is proposed as an important tool for identifying strengths and weaknesses in the existing regulation and non-regulation of IA systems in education.
