Abstract

The following article offers an in -depth look into the historical-epistemological development of algebra. Is also presents a study which encompasses its emergence, dated from pre-history to its evolution in current times. The contribution of the Egyptian, Babylonian and Chinese cultures, among others will be examined, along with an analysis of the impact that Arabs and Greeks have had, in the matter. From this point on, the transition towards the consolidation of elementary, lineal, multilinear, homological, commutative, noncommutative and Boolean algebra is also shown. Considering our previous ideas, a new approach that reshapes the algebraic theory and considers different meanings such as the intuitive, classical and mathematics-axiomatic ones, will be presented.
