Abstract

This research shows the results of the level of mathematical anxiety in students of the pre-calculus course at the Latin American University of Science and Technology (ULACIT). The sample was constituted by 237 students enrolled in the first quarter of 2022 under mixed educational modality (courses offered in person and virtually) due to the protocols established before the health alert originated by COVID 19. Mathematical anxiety is an affective state where there is a lack of stability and comfort presented by an individual in situations where mathematics is related (P´erez - Tyteca et al., 2013). With this, the research question was posed: What is the level of mathematical anxiety shown by precalculus students in the first quarter of 2022? In turn, the objective was to study the level of mathematical anxiety of precalculus students enrolled in that academic period, as well as to analyze the significant differences according to sex and mode of study. The results obtained do not show statistically significant differences in the level of mathematical anxiety in relation to sex, but they do show significant differences in relation to the educational modality where virtual students present greater mathematical anxiety.
