Submission and review process
Manuscript Submission
Manuscripts must be submitted together with a Statement of Originality. Both the manuscript and the letter may be sent through one of the following options:
- Journal platform: create an author account and follow the submission guide. In case of access problems, please contact us at: jcvalverde@tec.ac.cr.
- Email: send the documents to: kuru@tec.ac.cr or dcarvajal@tec.ac.cr.
Peer Review System
The editorial team carries out an initial screening to verify that the manuscript fits the scope of the journal and complies with publication guidelines. Submissions that do not match the journal’s scope will be rejected ad portas. If the format is not followed, authors will be informed so they can make the necessary corrections.
Once this stage is passed, manuscripts are sent to three external reviewers under a double-blind peer review process, which ensures reciprocal anonymity between authors and reviewers. Based on the reviewers’ reports, the editor may issue one of the following decisions:
- Accepted (no changes).
- Accepted with minor revisions (no further peer review required).
- Accepted with major revisions (the revised manuscript will undergo another peer review).
- Rejected (the manuscript presents deficiencies that prevent publication).
The decision is made based on the majority opinion of the three reviewers. Manuscripts requiring corrections must be resubmitted for final review by the editorial team.
Publication Frequency
RFMK publishes two issues per year, corresponding to the January–June and July–December periods.
Editorial Timelines and Review Process
RFMK is committed to an efficient and transparent editorial process. The estimated timelines are as follows:
- Initial editorial screening: 7 to 15 business days.
- Double-blind peer review: approximately 4 to 8 weeks.
- Author revisions: up to 15 days for minor revisions and 30 days for major revisions (with the possibility of a justified extension, subject to approval by the editorial team).
The final decision will be communicated after review of the corrected version. The editor reserves the right to assign the accepted manuscript to the current or a subsequent issue, depending on response times and editorial scheduling.
