Abstract
The accreditation of microbiological testing methods in food and water microbiology laboratories is a fundamental requirement to ensure the reliability, comparability, and traceability of analytical results. This study describes and documents the accreditation process of qualitative and quantitative microbiological methods implemented at the Water and Food Microbiology Laboratory of CEQIATEC under the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard. The laboratory evaluated internationally recognized standardized methods as well as rapid alternative methods, selecting those most suitable for routine application in complex food matrices. The implementation, validation, and verification of these methods enabled the accreditation of all tests before the Costa Rican Accreditation Body (ECA), contributing to the achievement of institutional goals of the Costa Rica Institute of Technology (TEC) within its Institutional Strategic Plan (Goal 5.2.8: Accreditation of laboratory tests).
