Citation metrics in brief

Impact Factor*: The Journal Impact Factor ™ is calculated by dividing the number of current year citations to papers published in the journal during the two previous years by the total number of articles published by the journal in the two previous years.

Five-year Impact Factor*: The five-year impact factor is calculated by dividing the number of current year citations to papers published in the five previous years by the total number of articles published by the journal in the five previous years.

Journal Citation Indicator*: This variable measures the average Category Normalized Citation Impact (CNCI) of citable manuscripts published by the journal over the previous three-year period. Journals in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) by Clarivate Web of Science have a Citation Indicator.

CiteScore (Scopus)†: Average number of citations received by articles in the journal over the previous four-year period.

CiteScore Best Quartile†: This indicator shows the journal’s highest CiteScore ranking in a Scopus subject category (e.g., Q1 = 25% of journals with the highest CiteScores).

SNIP (Source Normalized Impact per Paper): This indicator is computed as the number of citations per article in the journal divided by citation potential in the field.

SJR (Scimago Journal Rank): This indicator is the average number of (weighted) citations in one year, divided by the number of articles published in the journal in the previous three years.

Acceptance rate: Articles accepted for publication by the journal in the previous calendar year as a percentage of all papers receiving a decision.

Citation metrics are updated annually mid-year. The acceptance data are for the last full calendar year and are updated annually in March.
