El Emprendedor Académico: su Perfil y Motivaciones para convertirse en Empresario (The academic entrepreneur: profile and motivation for becoming one)

Abstract
El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar el desarrollo de lasspin-offs académicas en España, específicamente en el estudiodel perfil del emprendedor académico y cuáles son susmotivaciones para convertirse en empresario. Los resultadosobtenidos evidencian que los emprendedores académicosespañoles son investigadores de alto estatus, con una ampliaexperiencia en investigación y con un nivel de calidadcientífica superior a la media del colectivo de investigadoresde las universidades públicas. Por otra parte, el análisis delas características emprendedoras muestra grandes diferenciasentre los emprendedores académicos y aquellos queemprenden fuera de la academia. Adicionalmente, los resultadosseñalan que lo que impulsa la acción de emprenderen la academia son las motivaciones relacionadas con elconocimiento científico y su desarrollo. Los otros grupos demotivaciones consideradas son menos relevantes.
ABSTRACT
This study aims to analyze academic spin-offs developmentin Spain, centering on academic entrepreneurprofiles, and his or her motivations into becoming one.Results show that Spanish academic entrepreneurs arehigh status researchers, with wide research experienceand scientific qualifications above the public universitiesresearch community. On the other hand, the analysesof entrepreneurial characteristics show big differencesamong academic entrepreneurs and those entrepreneursoutside the academic environment. Furthermore, resultsshow that the main drivers for academic entrepreneurshipare scientific knowledge and its development. Othermotivational drivers studied are less relevant.
