Abstract
This study presents an experience systematization based on the “Participatory Monitoring of Wild Birds at La Balsa Farm for the Analysis of Their Current Conservation Status and Their Relationship with Agricultural Production in the Huetar Norte Region.” research project. Its objective was to assess the effects generated among non-specialists in ornithology who participated in birdwatching activities, talks, guided tours, bird counts, knowledge-sharing meetings, and the 2025 Global Big Day event. A total of 47 participants, ranging in age from 16 to 74 years, with gender diversity and different educational backgrounds, took part in the activities. The results reveal a positive impact: 87% of participants reported having learned “much,” 100% stated that they had acquired a new perspective on biodiversity, and more than 90% rated social interaction as “Very pleasant” or “Pleasant.” Additionally, 97.9% expressed interest in continuing to participate. In conclusion, the educational and social objectives were achieved by promoting intergenerational learning, mutual respect, and the strengthening of community capacities, with interinstitutional collaboration.
