Abstract
En vista de la competencia, la innovación, loscambios, las estrategias y el futuro, los ejecutivosdeben reconocerle a la Tecnología de Información (TI)su importancia en el desarrollo de las empresas y losnegocios. Hoy en día, por lo tanto, es perentorio quese dediquen primero a realizar una verdadera gestiónestratégica, basada en la TI, con verdaderos planes alargo plazo que contemplen, desde su inicio, todas lasactividades de la organización.
Las áreas que componen la entidad deben generarsus propios planes y gestiones, para que el Área de TIpueda apoyarse en éstos y, así, generar planes a largoplazo que coadyuven a lograr las metas y los objetivosgenerales. No deben olvidar que la TI está compuestapor una serie de elementos, todos de suma relevanciadentro del contexto organizacional. De estos, el másimportante es la información; de nada vale disponerde mucha tecnología de avanzada, si no se sabe cómoutilizarla para que proporcione información necesariapara la solución de problemas, la toma de decisiones,y para mejorar el control. Indudablemente, sin unverdadero y efectivo proceso de planificación a largoplazo, esto no se logra.
ABSTRACT
Business executives must acknowledge theimportance of Information Technology (IT) incompany and business development due to competition,innovation, changes, strategies and hereafter. Nowadaysit is paramount for them to develop a real strategicmanagement based on IT with real long term plans thatcontemplate all organizational activities from the verybeginning.
All areas comprising the business should generatetheir own plans and efforts so the IT area can use themto generate long term plans that help in attaining itsgoals and general objectives. It should not be forgottenthat IT is comprised by several elements, all which areextremely important in the organizational context. Ofthese the most relevant is information itself; it is notworth to possess the most advanced technology whilenot knowing how to use it to provide the necessaryinformation to solve problems, make decisions andimprove control. Undoubtedly, this cannot be achievedwithout a real and effective long term planning.
